Benefits of Green at Work

The healthier your employees the

healthier your business

Today’s business is so competitive and if there is something you the employer can do to give your business an edge, why wouldn’t you?  The workplace is the front line in protecting your most valuable asset-your employees.

We all know there are lots of studies out there, but recent studies have shown buildings that go green, are able to show measurable financial gains which are attributed to better employee health (less absenteeism), improved productivity, as well as lower operating costs.

Green cleaning is one of the fastest and easiest ways for business owners to begin the process of making their buildings safer and healthier for all.  Also if your business is trying to get LEED®  certified it is pretty easy to pick up some points.

Healthy Employees

The following just floors me-30% of U.S. workers are suffering health problems caused by Sick Building Syndrome.  We are undervaluing our human capital our most important asset-people.   Green cleaning is just as effective, cost is basically the same as traditional methods and your people will feel better and be more productive.  What is the downside?

The Lawrence Berkley National Design Laboratory in California did a study in 2002 and the results were shocking.  They found improved air quality by using green design, green building materials and technologies  lowered sick building symptoms by 20% to 50%, while cold and flu were slashed 9% to 20%, and allergies and asthma drop by 8% to 25%.

Healthy employees+happy employees=profitable company

Something to think about…

In the United States commercial buildings:

12% of the water consumed

39% of the waste (building related construction and demolition)

40% of the raw materials

71% of the electricity

*Source: 2003 U.S. DOE Buildings Energy Data Book

They produce, directly or indirectly, 40% of the landfill waste

33% of the carbon dioxide,

49% of the sulfur dioxide and

10% of the particulate emissions.

When we take on our larger social responsibility to one another we are able to improve the world we live.  WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER!
